The World According to NVIDIA

Computex 2024 Recap

Hello readers,

Welcome to another edition of This Week in the Future! NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel all made announcements at Computex 2024 in Taiwan that represent a revolution in the computing industry and the next era of AI hardware.

Let’s get into it!

The World According to NVIDIA

At Computex 2024 in Taipei, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang made several announcements around AI and accelerated computing. Also in attendance were AMD and Intel, both of whom are living in NVIDIA’s world but are eager to bring about a new world order.

NVIDIA remains a formidable leader, revealing the Rubin platform which promises cutting-edge GPUs, an Arm-based CPU named Vera, and next-level networking capabilities through NVLink 6 and CX9 SuperNIC. This platform is designed to maintain NVIDIA's one-year innovation cycle, pushing the limits of data center capabilities.

Intel, not far behind, shifted its focus towards practical AI integration into consumer and enterprise environments. They introduced the Xeon 6 processors and the Gaudi 2 AI accelerators, optimized for generative AI workloads. Additionally, Intel highlighted its AI PCs powered by the latest Core Ultra processors, which aim to improve productivity and entertainment through advanced AI capabilities.

AMD detailed its strategy to bolster its presence in high-performance computing with an expanded roadmap for its AMD Instinct GPUs. This initiative directly challenges NVIDIA's stronghold and Intel's diversified approach.

Why This Matters

The competition between these companies is leading to a revolution in the computing industry that will benefit all of tech, not just AI. The insatiable demand for GPUs has made NVIDIA more valuable than Apple, and it shows no signs of letting up as an entire industry banks on the scaling hypothesis and NVIDIA banks on their belief in it.
