Hello readers,

Welcome to the AI For All newsletter! Today, we’ll be looking at an AI workflow tool you can rely on for the long haul, plus links from around the web and our AI story of the week!

AI Spotlight: n8n

Welcome to the AI Spotlight, where we feature an overview of an AI tool we’ve been trying out in our workflow!

What: n8n is a workflow automation tool that lets you connect apps and APIs through a visual builder. It’s open-source, self-hostable, and flexible enough to do everything from simple email automations to complex AI agent workflows. You can use it for free on your own server or pay for their hosted version if you don’t want to mess with setup.

How: You build workflows by dragging and connecting “nodes”—each one representing an app, a service, or a bit of logic. You can use pre-built integrations (there are hundreds), make custom API calls, or drop in JavaScript or Python when you need something more specific. It supports real-time triggers, lets you test individual steps, and includes built-in AI features like summarization or chatbot-style querying. You can even connect it with LangChain for more advanced AI stuff.

Why: The visual editor makes it way easier to map out and tweak complicated workflows than trying to do it all in code. If you’re experimenting with AI agents or API calls, it’s a great way to prototype without writing a ton of glue code. One of the biggest perks is that you can host it yourself—so if you build something important in n8n, you don’t have to worry about pricing changes or features getting locked behind a paywall. The docs are solid, especially for API authentication, and there’s an active community and YouTube ecosystem that helps fill in the gaps.

Our favorite part: Being able to self-host means you’re in control in a field where everything is so frequently in flux. No surprise bills, no features disappearing. Just a solid, flexible tool you can count on—whether you’re automating daily tasks or stitching together AI workflows.

Pricing:

  • Self-hosted: Free forever.

  • Cloud version: Starts at $20/month if you want them to host it for you.

Deals or promotions: 14-day free trial for cloud services.
